Environmental Compliance & Sustainability

This Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Statement (“Statement”) defines the environmental standards observed by MaxMed Systems (“MaxMed”) in the procurement, refurbishment and distribution of medical equipment across the European Union and international markets.
It outlines the obligations applicable to MaxMed and to all suppliers operating within our value chain.

MaxMed is committed to responsible business conduct, regulatory compliance and long-term sustainability across all operations.

Compliance with EU Environmental Legislation

All activities undertaken by MaxMed and its suppliers comply fully with:

  • EU Environmental Liability Directive

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

  • Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive

  • EU Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants

  • National environmental laws applicable in the country of origin and destination

Suppliers involved in refurbishment, handling, transport or disposal must maintain documented evidence of compliance.

Circular Economy Principles for Medical Equipment

MaxMed operates exclusively within the framework of the circular economy, focusing on:

  • extending the operational life cycle of medical equipment through certified refurbishment

  • reducing unnecessary production of new devices

  • limiting environmental waste by reintroducing functional systems into the private healthcare market

  • supporting responsible resource use through reallocation of high-value imaging technologies

This model delivers measurable reductions in electronic waste and carbon footprint across the supply chain.

Responsible Refurbishment and Testing

All refurbished equipment delivered through MaxMed must meet the following requirements:

  • decontamination and cleaning performed according to EU hospital standards

  • replacement of worn components using approved spare parts

  • functional and safety testing documented through verifiable reports

  • controlled refurbishment environments that meet technical and environmental regulations

  • adherence to manufacturer maintenance protocols where applicable

Only certified technicians may perform refurbishment or pre-shipment testing.

Packaging, Transport and Environmental Protection

MaxMed ensures that transport and packaging practices meet environmental standards:

  • packaging is selected to ensure equipment protection while minimising waste

  • wooden crates, pallets and materials comply with EU phytosanitary and recycling requirements

  • transport partners must operate under EU environmental and logistics regulations

  • multi-use and recyclable packaging materials are prioritised where possible

  • emissions reduction is considered when selecting logistics partners and routing

Suppliers must document packaging and handling procedures upon request.

Waste Management and End-of-Life Treatment

Where equipment or components reach end-of-life status:

  • disposal must follow applicable WEEE requirements

  • recycling procedures must be documented

  • hazardous substances (e.g., batteries, electronics, cooling agents) must be processed under certified schemes

  • suppliers must not dispose of medical waste outside regulated facilities

MaxMed may require evidence of proper end-of-life treatment from suppliers.

Energy Efficiency and Resource Management

Suppliers and partners involved in refurbishment must:

  • operate energy-efficient testing facilities

  • minimise water and electricity usage where possible

  • apply resource management measures aligned with EU sustainability expectations

MaxMed encourages ongoing optimisation of environmental performance within the supply chain.

Climate Responsibility and Long-Term Goals

MaxMed commits to:

  • continuous reduction of its environmental footprint

  • collaboration with suppliers that demonstrate verifiable sustainability practices

  • transparent reporting when required by regulatory authorities

  • promoting refurbished medical equipment as an environmentally responsible alternative to new production

Long-term sustainability objectives are reviewed annually based on EU and industry developments.

Compliance Audits and Documentation

MaxMed reserves the right to request or review:

  • refurbishment documentation

  • WEEE compliance records

  • recycling certificates

  • transport and packaging logs

  • environmental audit results from suppliers

Failure to comply with this Statement may lead to suspension or termination of cooperation.
